Accelerating Stroke Improvement

The Stroke Improvement Programme’s key priority is to deliver the aims of the Accelerating Stroke Improvement (ASI) programme. This involves working with Strategic Health Authorities, Primary Care Trusts, Local Authorities, Stroke Care Networks, Clinical Commissioning Groups, the voluntary sector, patients, carers and services to guide and support the implementation of ASI.

The ASI initiative key areas of work are: 

• Atrial fibrillation (AF) detection, risk stratification and optimal and treatment
• Direct admission to a stroke unit and time spent on a stroke unit
• Timely brain scan
• Timely and effective management of TIA
• Psychological support
• Joint care planning
• Review at 6/12
• Early supported discharge (ESD)
