Dr David Clark

Consultant Histopathologist - Path Links, Lincoln, UK

David undertook general professional training in General Medicine and Clinical Haematology before training as a Histopathologist. He was appointed Consultant Histopathologist to Grantham District Hospital, Lincolnshire, UK and Special Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Nottingham in 1992. He has a subspecialist interest in Haematopathology. David is a co-author of Bone Marrow Pathology, a leading textbook on diagnostic pathology of the bone marrow, and has contributed chapters to a number of other textbooks on Haematopathology.

His management experience includes being Head of Service for Pathology (1993-1995) and Clinical Director of Diagnostic and Paramedical Services (1995-1998) at Grantham Hospital, Lincolnshire, UK. He has been Director of Path Links (a managed pathology network across five District General Hospitals in greater Lincolnshire) since its formation in 1998. He is Chair of the Path Links Management Board and is accountable for the pathology service to the Lead Trust Chief Executive.

Key transformations delivered since the formation of Path Links include the introduction of a single integrated LIS across all 5 hospitals, full standardisation of equipment platforms and methodologies across the network, and consolidation of Cellular Pathology, Immunology and Microbiology laboratories. Path Links has applied innovative solutions to the delivery of high quality, cost effective, standardised pathology services to multiple widely separated District Hospitals and Primary Care facilities, and is regarded as a leader in the development of managed pathology networks. Over the past 5 years Path Links has embarked on a Lean transformation of its organisational culture and processes with dramatic improvement in quality, productivity and staff morale. 

Dr Anthony Maxwell

Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Bolton Hospital since 1990. My main clinical interests are breast and gastrointestinal radiology. I was Clinical Lead for three years and have been involved in a number of service improvement projects using lean principles.

Dr Richard Seymour

Richard Seymour has been a consultant radiologist at Torbay Hospital since 1997. In addition to his interest in service improvement his clinical subspecialties are musculoskeletal and interventional radiology. He has been one of the National Clinical Leads in service improvement since 2002 and has managerial experience, having been Clinical Director of his department. 

 

 

Dr Saimah Arif
Consultant Histopathologist, Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust

Dr Saimah Arif was appointed as a Consultant Histopathologist in 2006 at Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. Her area of subspecialist interest is Gynaecological Pathology.

Whipps Cross was one of nine pilot sites selected to work with NHS Improvement using Lean methodology in service improvement (Sept 09-Sept 10). She was the Clinical Lead for this project which was remarkably successful and led to significantly reduced turnaround times.
 

Dr David Hamer

Currently working in Laboratory Medicine at the Royal Bolton Hospital as Head Biomedical Scientist and Blood Sciences Service Manager responsible for Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Immunology, Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Specimen Reception & Phlebotomy services.

Also Business Development and Marketing Lead for Laboratory Medicine services and acting as Professional Lead for Healthcare Science for Royal Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Since commencing his own Lean journey in October 2005, David has been a regular speaker on the application of Lean Management in Laboratory Medicine at numerous meetings and conferences in the UK and Europe.

Kevin McLachlan

Kevin has been Microbiology Service Manager at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals (NHS) Trust on Merseyside since November 2007. Previously, he was Deputy Service Manager and has worked for the same Trust for over 25 years. It was as Deputy Manager in 2007 that his interest in Service Redesign began after a week long Rapid Improvement Event facilitated by the National Pathology Improvement Team and this interest has grown. He is looking forward to working with the team and gaining a real insight into NHS Improvement.
