Diagnosing Cancer Earlier
The diagnostics team are currently working with pathology and radiology teams to ensure that tests for diagnosing and staging cancer are carried out quickly and efficiently. Using ‘Lean’ principles to improve overall turnaround times (TAT) building in quality and safety, and working with cervical screening labs, mean that possible cancers will be detected earlier.
Early achievements have shown reduced end-to-end TATs of between 43% and 90%. The aim for a maximum two week wait for all imaging by June 2009 will ensure that radiology will support the earlier diagnosis of breast cancer by shortening the wait for screening and assessment imaging.
